Leptospirosis ( Rat fever )

Cause: Bacterial infection by Leptospira interrogans or Leptospira species.

Geography: Common in tropical areas & warmer climates with high annual rainfall

Transmission: Spread by wild & domestic animals, like rodents, cattle, pigs etc

Symptoms: Onset occurs 2-30 days after exposure; the disease may have 2 phases.

Treatment: Treatable with antibiotics, including penicillin and doxycycline.
