Ten militants were killed by security forces after an attack on a CRPF camp in Jiribam, Manipur, amidst ongoing ethnic violence that has claimed 230 lives.

In a fierce clash on Monday, a combined team of paramilitary and local police forces killed 10 militants after they attacked a CRPF camp at Jakuradhor in Jiribam district. The attack underscores the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, which has claimed over 230 lives in the past 18 months.
The incident occurred around 3 PM when militants targeted the CRPF post and the nearby Borobekera police station. In response, security forces launched a strong counterattack, resulting in the deaths of 10 militants. One additional militant, whose body was taken by the attackers, is suspected to have been killed during the exchange.
CRPF constable Sanjeev Kumar sustained a gunshot wound and was evacuated to Silchar Medical College in Assam for treatment. The firefight lasted for about 40 to 45 minutes, after which the situation was controlled.
Security forces recovered a cache of weapons, including AK-47s, SLRs, and an RPG, highlighting the serious nature of the attack. This marks the deadliest day for militants in the region since early September.
Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the militants, but investigations are underway. The Kuki-Zo Council has called for a shutdown in protest of the deaths of Kuki-Zo village volunteers in the attack, demanding a thorough investigation into the incident.
Manipur’s ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities has escalated since May 2023, with both sides now entrenched in separate strongholds. The ongoing conflict continues to affect the region, and security forces remain on high alert.
