Having explored the web space since its earlier days in India, Kritika Kamra lauds how the medium has forced Indian makers to push the envelope.

Kritika Kamra has acted across multiple mediums — films, TV, and OTT — and expresses her admiration for the freedom and innovation that digital platforms offer. Recently seen in the role of a cop named Vamika in the web show Gyaarah Gyaarah, Kamra highlights how OTT platforms are reshaping the creative process and enabling bold storytelling choices.
“OTT platforms have opened up new doors for storytelling in India. It’s the perfect place to prioritize stories above all else — whether it’s the star cast, budget, presenter, or number of screens,” Kamra explains. “This is why OTT is a democratic platform for new-age stories, allowing them to be told in the most authentic way, with a cast and structure that truly suits the story.”
Kritika Kamra adds that OTT platforms remain relatively free from restrictive formulas. “Television and films often carry the weight of popularity and profit. On TV, it’s about TRP, and in films, it’s about box-office numbers. This leads to repetitive formulas. However, on OTT, we see diverse and innovative narratives because the success of different types of stories — whether women-centric, crime dramas, or family sagas — shows that there is no fixed formula here,” shares Kamra, who has starred in OTT projects like Tandav (2021), Hush Hush (2022), and Bambai Meri Jaan (2023), among others.
Kritika Kamra is especially excited about how OTT platforms have encouraged Indian filmmakers to set higher standards. “So many OTT platforms bring international content to audiences in India, which creates a healthy pressure on Indian creators to match that quality,” she explains. “With OTT emerging as competition to traditional entertainment mediums, there’s an urgency to tell fresh, impactful stories with top-notch production quality. It’s wonderful for the industry as it motivates us to create world-class content.”
