Alstom Achieves Milestone with Delivery of First Indigenous Trainset for Meerut Metro
In a significant development, Alstom, the renowned French multinational rolling stock manufacturer, has successfully delivered the inaugural indigenously manufactured trainset for the Meerut Metro project to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).
This milestone marks the execution of a contract inked by Alstom in 2020, outlining the delivery of 210 cars intended for the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). The Meerut Metro, classified as an Urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), is designed to cover a 25-kilometer route along Line-1, comprising 14.80 kilometers of elevated track and 4.6 kilometers underground, connecting Partapur to Modipuram and encompassing 11 stations.
Notably, three stations on this line have been strategically positioned to offer seamless connectivity to Indias pioneering Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), establishing a vital link between Delhi and Meerut. As part of the delivery commitment, Alstom will supply 30 coaches configured into 10 trainsets, each consisting of three cars. Olivier Loison, the Managing Director of Alstom India, expressed enthusiasm about the Meerut Metro project, emphasizing its role in advancing the nations agenda to modernize both intra and intercity rail travel. He added that Alstom is proud to contribute its next-generation products to realize this transformative vision. This accomplishment signals a positive stride toward the enhancement of urban transit infrastructure in the region.
