Asia’s First Health Research “Pre-Clinical Network Facility” Inaugurated in Faridabad

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated Asia’s first “Pre-Clinical Network Facility” at THSTI, Faridabad, equipped to handle BSL3 pathogens.

This facility, selected by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), is notable as Asia’s first and the 9th globally to handle BSL3 pathogens.

Key Facilities and Initiatives in pre-clinical network

The facility includes one of India’s largest small animal housing capacities, supporting research on immune-compromised mice and various species. Additionally, the inauguration of the “Genetically Defined Human Associated Microbial Culture Collection (Ge-HuMic) Facility” aims to foster national and international collaborations in microbial research.

Minister’s Perspective

Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted THSTI’s achievements over its 14-year journey and its pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasized the Department of Biotechnology’s contributions and assured support for future infrastructure needs.

Research and Collaboration

The institute will facilitate cutting-edge research, translational studies on drug and vaccine candidates, and collaborations across academic and industrial sectors, aiming to advance healthcare innovations.

Dr Singh inaugurated the Genetically Defined Human Associated Microbial Culture Collection (Ge-HuMic) facility to act as a repository for providing microbial cultures to research institutes, universities, and industries for Research and Development. The Minister also signed more than a dozen agreements and MoUs with the Private sector for Vaccine development by the Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry.
