Speaking at the East Asia Summit in Vietnam on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that ongoing conflicts around the world are having a negative impact on the Global South. He also advocated for a rules-based Indo-Pacific region and emphasized the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation.
“The ongoing conflicts in various parts of the world are having the most severe impact on the countries of the Global South. Everyone wishes for peace and stability to be restored as soon as possible, whether in Eurasia or West Asia. I come from the land of Buddha, and I have often said that this is not the era of war. Problems cannot be solved on the battlefield. It is essential to respect sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international laws. We must prioritize dialogue, diplomacy, and a humanitarian approach. As a responsible global partner, India will continue to contribute in every possible way to support peace and stability,” said PM Modi during the East Asia Summit.
“We believe maritime activities should be conducted under UNCLOS, it is necessary to ensure freedom of navigation, and air space,” he added.
He emphasized that peace, security, and stability in the South China Sea are vital for the entire Indo-Pacific region.
“A free, open, inclusive, prosperous, and rule-based Indo-Pacific is crucial for the progress of the entire region,” he added.

PM Modi highlighted terrorism as a major threat to global peace and security.
“Terrorism is a serious challenge to global peace and security. To combat it, all forces that believe in humanity must unite. Additionally, cooperation in areas such as cyber, maritime, and space must be strengthened,” he stated.
He emphasized the importance of respecting sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international laws, stating that dialogue and diplomacy must be prioritized.
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit in Vientiane.
During their meeting, PM Modi expressed condolences for the loss of at least 14 lives in the US due to Hurricane Milton since Wednesday.
PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Laos, where he participated in the 21st ASEAN-India Summit on Thursday.
