South African speedster Kagiso Rabada became the fastest bowler to reach 300 Test wickets in terms of balls bowled during the opening Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Monday. Bangladesh, after electing to bat first, struggled against the relentless South African attack. Wiaan Mulder struck early, utilizing swing and bounce to trouble the batsmen. Rabada soon joined the fray, exploiting the conditions to dismiss key players Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das, deepening Bangladesh’s woes.

Following an incredible spell, Kagiso Rabada became the fastest bowler in history to reach 300 Test wickets, achieving the milestone after bowling just 11,817 deliveries. This achievement places him ahead of legendary bowlers such as Waqar Younis (12,602), Dale Steyn (12,605), Allan Donald (13,672), and Malcolm Marshall (13,728).

Rabada is the first bowler ever to claim 300 Test wickets in fewer than 12,000 deliveries. His remarkable feat dethroned Pakistan’s Waqar Younis, who previously held the record with 12,602 balls. Rabada’s accomplishment bested Younis’ mark by 785 balls, cementing his place as one of the finest fast bowlers in the game.

Before Rabada’s historic performance, South African legend Dale Steyn held the record for reaching 300 wickets in 12,605 deliveries. However, the 29-year-old Rabada has now taken over the top spot, showcasing his dominance in world cricket.

Fewest Balls Taken for 300 Test Wickets:

  2. 12,602 – Waqar Younis (PAK)

Rabada capped off his impressive display by claiming the wicket of Nayeem Hasan, reducing Bangladesh to 102/9. He finished the first innings with outstanding figures of 3/26 from 11 overs, maintaining a tight economy rate of 2.40.

Bangladesh’s innings wrapped up at a modest 106 after Taijul Islam was caught by Keshav Maharaj, who had set a perfect trap. Rabada, Wiaan Mulder, and Maharaj each claimed three wickets, contributing significantly to South Africa’s dominance in the first innings.
