After facing multiple delays, Kangana Ranaut’s controversial solo directorial debut Emergency now has a new release date. The actor-director took to social media on Monday morning to announce when her period political thriller will hit theatres.

Kangana Ranaut Announces New Release Date
Kangana Ranaut revealed that Emergency will hit cinemas on January 17, 2025. She shared a new poster of the film featuring herself as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Vishak Nair as Sanjay Gandhi, Anupam Kher as Jai Prakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.

In her caption, Kangana Ranaut wrote: “17th January 2025 – The epic saga of the nation’s most powerful woman and the moment that altered India’s destiny. #Emergency – Unveils Only in cinemas on 17.01.2025!”

The release date is just ahead of Republic Day on January 26. However, the Republic Day weekend has already been claimed by Amar Kaushik’s action thriller Sky Force, starring Akshay Kumar.

Emergency’s Certification Troubles
Emergency has been surrounded by controversy, including backlash from several Sikh groups. The film delves into the life of Indira Gandhi, particularly focusing on the 21-month Emergency period she imposed from 1975 to 1977. The film’s objections led the Central Board of Film Certification to withdraw its certification, delaying the film’s release that was initially set for September 5.

Kangana Ranaut had shared her disappointment with ANI: “I know how I made this film. I did not get any support from the film industry. It’s made on a huge budget. I, along with Zee and other partners, created Emergency, and now with the release delay, everyone is bearing a huge loss. Delayed release is a loss for all. I think the Censor Board should take the responsibility to release this film at the earliest.”

Co-produced by Zee Studios and Kangana’s Manikarnika Films, Emergency marks Kangana Ranaut second directorial venture after the 2019 historical Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, co-directed by Krish.
