ToggleDouble Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has brought in South Korean legend Lee Hyun Il as her consulting coach on an interim basis, strengthening her coaching team ahead of her highly anticipated return to action next month. This follows the recent appointment of Anup Sridhar as Sindhu’s interim coach. Both Lee Hyun Il and Sridhar will be part of her coaching team until December 2024, with a decision on a permanent coaching team expected by then.
Pv Sindhu is expected to return to competitive action at the Finland Open and Denmark Open, both in October.
Hyun Il, a former world No. 1 and Sindhu’s teammate during the Premier Badminton League (PBL), brings extensive international experience and a strong reputation for meticulous preparation. A bronze medallist in singles at the 2006 World Championships, Hyun Il also boasts two Asian Games team gold medals, earned in 2002 and 2014.
The inclusion of Hyun Il, alongside Anup Sridhar, aims to create a dynamic coaching duo that combines vast experience, tactical precision, and deep knowledge of badminton. Both coaches will play a key role in Sindhu’s preparation as she kicks off her post-Olympic campaign, with a focus on refining her game for the upcoming European circuit.
“I’m excited to have Anup and Lee Hyun Il join my team during this crucial phase. Anup’s deep understanding of Indian badminton and his strategic mindset have always impressed me, and I’m eager to work closely with him,” Sindhu said in a statement.
