PM Modi Demands Global Governance Reform

At the heart of PM Modi’s address at the BRICS Summit 2025 was a call for comprehensive reforms in global institutions like the United Nations (UN) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). He stressed that these global bodies must evolve with the changing world order to reflect the interests of emerging economies. According to Times of India, Modi said, “The voice of the Global South needs to be amplified, and institutions must represent today’s realities, not the past.”

AI Ethics BRICS Agenda Proposed by India

Artificial Intelligence emerged as a central theme of the BRICS Summit 2025, with India spearheading discussions on responsible AI governance. PM Modi urged the BRICS nations to work together to create ethical frameworks that ensure AI is used for human welfare, not harm. Citing the rapid growth of AI technologies, he proposed a multilateral effort to set global standards on AI transparency and accountability. As reported by NDTV, PM Modi called for “a collective BRICS framework for ethical AI.”

Modi Pushes Counterterrorism Agenda at BRICS

Security and counterterrorism were also key highlights. PM Modi pressed for enhanced cooperation among BRICS nations to fight terrorism in all its forms. He emphasized the need for intelligence sharing, border security, and a unified approach against radicalization. This aligns with India’s broader diplomatic push for international consensus on cross-border terrorism.

Global South: India Voices Call for Equity

A consistent theme throughout the BRICS Summit 2025 was India’s advocacy for the Global South. PM Modi stated that BRICS must become a platform to bridge the gap between the developed and developing world. He urged richer nations to support developing economies in technology access, infrastructure, and climate resilience, ensuring equitable growth opportunities.

PM Modi Supports BRICS Expansion Talks

India also supported ongoing discussions around expanding the BRICS bloc. Modi welcomed the idea of including more nations from Asia, Africa, and Latin America to give a stronger voice to developing economies. The expansion aims to create a more representative and influential global coalition.

Institutional Reform in WTO and UN

PM Modi used the platform to once again call for institutional reform at the WTO and UN, stating that these institutions often fail to serve the interests of emerging and smaller economies. He reiterated that meaningful change in decision-making processes is necessary to ensure equity and fairness.

Climate Finance: A Key Highlight

Climate finance was another major highlight of the BRICS Summit 2025. India pushed for developed countries to meet their climate financing commitments, especially toward renewable energy adoption in the Global South. PM Modi called for increased collaboration in green technology and sustainable infrastructure among BRICS nations.

The BRICS Summit 2025 showcased India’s global leadership in advocating responsible AI, institutional reforms, and equitable global development. Through strong proposals and inclusive dialogue, PM Modi reinforced India’s role as a key voice of the Global South on the world stage.
