Prithvi Shaw has been left out of the Mumbai squad for their upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Tripura. While no official reason was given for his exclusion, reports suggest that Shaw has been asked to focus on improving his fitness. Additionally, it is believed that the decision serves as a subtle warning to the 24-year-old to address his disciplinary issues.

Shaw missed Mumbai’s conditioning camp in Bengaluru in July, as well as the Buchi Babu Trophy in Chennai. He began his domestic season with a solid knock of 76 for Mumbai in the second innings of the Irani Trophy match against Rest of India, which ended in a draw, with Mumbai winning the trophy based on their first-innings lead. In the Ranji Trophy, Shaw recorded scores of 7 and 12 in Mumbai’s loss to Baroda, followed by 1 and an unbeaten 39 off 36 balls in their nine-wicket victory over Maharashtra.

According to Cricbuzz, the Mumbai selectors and team management believe that Shaw is overweight and are unhappy with his lack of seriousness in net practice sessions. While players like captain Ajinkya Rahane, who has had a successful international career, and India stars Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur are consistent in their training, Shaw has reportedly been skipping sessions. When he does attend, he is said to approach them casually, often getting out cheaply. As per Cricbuzz, both Rahane and head coach Omkar Salvi agreed with the selectors’ decision to drop Shaw.
