A suicide bomber, identified as Adil Ahmad Dar, affiliated with the Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a bus carrying Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. This horrific attack resulted in the tragic loss of 40 Indian security personnel, marking a grim chapter in the ongoing conflict in the region.
The attack not only caused immense grief and outrage across India but also escalated tensions between India and Pakistan. Following the incident, India responded with a series of diplomatic and military actions. On February 26, 2019, the Indian Air Force conducted an airstrike, targeting what was claimed to be a JeM training camp in Balakot, Pakistan. India’s response also included revoking Pakistan’s Most Favored Nation status, raising customs duties on Pakistani goods, and diplomatic efforts to isolate Pakistan on the international stage, particularly in forums like the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for its alleged support of terrorism.
