The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the IPL auction rules on Sunday, allowing each franchise to retain up to six players, including the Right to Match (RTM) option. As teams begin finalizing their picks ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, former India pacer RP Singh made a bold statement regarding Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He predicted that the team would retain only Virat Kohli and release all other players, relying heavily on the RTM option. Notably, Kohli has been with RCB since the inaugural IPL season.
Virat Kohli remains the highest run-scorer in IPL history, amassing 8,004 runs from 252 matches. He has notched up 8 centuries, the most by any player in the tournament, alongside 55 half-centuries.
In a discussion on Colors Cineplex, former India pacer RP Singh weighed in on Royal Challengers Bangalore’s strategy for the IPL 2025 auction. He predicted that RCB would likely retain only Virat Kohli, releasing the rest of the players while relying on the Right to Match (RTM) option. Kohli, a constant presence in RCB since the league’s inception, remains central to the team’s plans.
As per the IPL auction rules recently released by the BCCI, each franchise can retain up to six players, including the RTM option. The six retentions/RTM can feature a maximum of five capped players (Indian and overseas), along with two uncapped players.
Discussing potential retentions, RP Singh highlighted that players like Rajat Patidar and Mohammed Siraj could be reacquired at a lower price during the auction, with RCB using the RTM if needed. “For Patidar, you may get him for less than 11 crores. If his price rises, the RTM can be used,” Singh noted. He also mentioned that Siraj’s performance could lead to a price close to 11 crores, but the RTM would be available if his value escalates during the auction.
