The Mumbai Police on Tuesday arrested a man in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, for allegedly issuing death threats to actor Shah Rukh Khan.
The Bandra police station had received a threatening call last week, demanding ₹50 lakh from Shah Rukh Khan. The police registered a case under sections 308(4) (extortion involving threats of death or serious injury) and 351(3)(4) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
The police investigation led them to a lawyer in Raipur, Faizan Khan, as the call was made using a phone number registered in his name. After failing to appear for questioning, Faizan Khan was arrested.
Mumbai police had traveled to Raipur and summoned Faizan Khan, who resides in the area under the jurisdiction of the Pandri police station.
What Faizan Told the Media About the Threat Call to Shah Rukh Khan
Superintendent of Police (CSP- Civil Lines) Ajay Kumar told PTI last week that Faizan Khan stated he had lost his phone and had filed a complaint at the Khamardih police station.
Faizan told the media, “My phone was stolen on November 2, and I complained. I informed the Mumbai police, and they interrogated me for about two hours.”
He went on to explain that the threat call made from his number was part of a larger conspiracy against him, adding, “I objected to a dialogue from Shah Rukh Khan’s movie Anjaam (1994) due to its reference to deer hunting.”
Faizan continued, “I come from Rajasthan, where the Bishnoi community, who protect deer, is part of my circle. If a Muslim says something like that about deer, it’s condemnable. Therefore, I raised my objection.”
He concluded, “Whoever made the call from my phone, it appears to be intentional. I think it’s a conspiracy against me.”
