India Unveils 15-Year Defence Tech Roadmap: TPCR-2025

India has launched TPCR-2025, a 15-year roadmap to shape the country’s defence modernization and prepare for future warfare challenges. The Technology Perspective and Capability Roadmap (TPCR-2025) is designed to strengthen indigenous defence technology, reduce import dependence, and empower the armed forces with advanced tools to face tomorrow’s battlefield.

What is TPCR-2025?

TPCR-2025 stands for Technology Perspective and Capability Roadmap 2025. It provides a long-term vision for the development and acquisition of defence systems for the next decade and a half. The roadmap highlights critical technologies that India must prioritize, ranging from advanced communication to unmanned systems, making it a guiding framework for India’s defence modernization.

Push for Domestic Defence Tech

One of the main goals of TPCR-2025 is to push India towards self-reliance in defence technology. The roadmap emphasizes Atmanirbhar Bharat by reducing foreign imports and boosting local production. Indian startups, private firms, and research institutes will play a bigger role in designing next-gen defence systems. This ensures that India is not only a buyer but also an innovator in the global defence market.

Upgraded Nuclear and CBRN Systems

The roadmap focuses on nuclear modernization and advanced CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) defence systems. With growing global risks, TPCR-2025 envisions secure missile systems, improved early warning capabilities, and better protection against weapons of mass destruction. This adds a strong layer of security for India’s armed forces in future warfare tech.

Next-Gen Drone & Unmanned Warfare

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), underwater drones, and robotic systems are key highlights of TPCR-2025. The roadmap identifies drones as essential for both surveillance and combat roles. Autonomous systems will be integrated with AI to make India’s forces more agile and capable of handling diverse threats across land, sea, and air.

Navy, Army, Air Force Future Plans

Each wing of the armed forces gets special attention under TPCR-2025

  • Indian Navy will focus on aircraft carriers, submarines, and unmanned naval vehicles.
  • Indian Army will see upgrades in armored vehicles, artillery systems, and battlefield communication.
  • Indian Air Force will prioritize stealth fighters, long-range missiles, and hypersonic weapons.

Together, these efforts ensure balanced defence modernization across all services.

AI, Hypersonics, Cyber: The Future Tools

Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and hypersonic weapons are marked as the future backbone of India’s defence. TPCR-2025 highlights how AI-driven decision-making, cyber protection for defence networks, and ultra-fast hypersonic missiles will give India a strategic edge in modern conflicts.

Conclusion

With TPCR-2025, India takes a bold step toward shaping its defence future. By focusing on self-reliance, next-gen technologies, and a balance across all three services, this roadmap strengthens India’s global military position. It shows that India is not just preparing for today’s challenges but also for the future warfare tech that will define the coming decades.
