Former India captain Virat Kohli arrived in Perth on Sunday, well before his teammates, to prepare for the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy series beginning on November 22.
Virat Kohli was spotted at the Mumbai airport on Saturday, accompanied by his wife Anushka Sharma and their children. A video of him at the airport went viral, showing him requesting paparazzi to avoid taking pictures of his kids. Meanwhile, there is still no confirmation on whether India captain Rohit Sharma will be joining the rest of the team, who are set to travel in two batches. Reports indicate that Rohit may miss the first Test at the Optus Stadium due to the expected birth of his second child.
India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed the media on Monday, stating that Rohit’s availability will be confirmed closer to the series. Gambhir also indicated that if Rohit is absent, vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah will lead the team in Perth, with KL Rahul or Abhimanyu Easwaran as possible opening replacements.
India to Begin Practice on Tuesday
The Indian team is expected to start their training on Tuesday at Perth’s WACA Ground. Preparations will take place behind closed doors in a locked stadium. Initially, India had planned a practice game against India A, but it was cancelled due to injury concerns. The team will instead focus on match simulations to gear up for the series.
