Indian cricket team star batter Virat Kohli equaled an embarrassing record on Thursday, being dismissed for a duck on Day 2 of the first Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru. Kohli, who has been struggling to find form recently, was dismissed by Will O’Rourke without scoring. A short-length delivery from the pacer glanced off Kohli’s gloves, allowing Glenn Phillips to take a sharp catch at leg gully. This marked Kohli’s 38th international duck, tying him with New Zealand’s Tim Southee for the most ducks by any active cricketer. India captain Rohit Sharma is third on this list with 33 ducks.

Earlier on Thursday, India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat in the rain-affected opening Test against New Zealand. India made two changes to their lineup, with Sarfaraz Khan replacing the injured Shubman Gill, who was deemed “not 100 percent” fit according to Rohit, and Kuldeep Yadav coming in for seamer Akash Deep as a third spin option.

The Indian team management confirmed after the toss that Shubman Gill was unavailable for selection due to neck stiffness. The first day’s play was completely washed out due to persistent rain.

India and New Zealand are set to play two more Tests, with the second Test in Pune from October 24-28, followed by the final Test in Mumbai from November 1-5.
